What’s Happening in Perth This Spring? 27 Sep

blog post

Ah, springtime in Perth! As the days grow longer and the air becomes infused with the sweet scent of blooming flowers, there's no better time to explore this vibrant city and its surrounding wonders. Perth comes to life in spring, offering a kaleidoscope of experiences for residents and visitors alike. Here are some great ideas for things to do in Perth during this stunning season.

Walk to see the Wildflowers

Perth is renowned for its wildflowers, and spring is when they put on their most spectacular show. Plan a picnic in Kings Park where you'll find a breathtaking array of native wildflowers in full bloom or take a walk along some of the many bush trails to savour the beauty of Western Australia's flora.

Some of the best places to see wildflowers in the Perth city limits are:

Kings Park – Perth CBD

The jewel in the city’s crown, Kings Park. Even regulars to this slice of paradise are continually surprised by its many hidden treasures. The Everlasting Kings Park Festival kicks off on September 15 and features a range of activities from guided walks and painting classes to workshops, all celebrating the park’s stunning wildflowers.

Kensington Bushland - Kensington

This 9ha bushland is a little pocket of bucolic beauty in the suburbs. A typical jarrah-banksia woodland, nature lovers will be pleased to note it has bounced back to its former glory since it was largely destroyed in a bushfire in 2016. Dogs are welcome on lead.

Hepburn Heights Conservation Area - Padbury

This popular 2.1km loop trail is a great way to introduce the kids to bushwalking, or to do a very easy walk (it takes around half an hour) and still post pictures to social media that will have people thinking you really are the outdoors type. The trail begins at O’Leary Road. Dogs welcome on lead.

Star Swamp Bushland Reserve - North Beach

The once extensive wetlands of the North Beach and Waterman’s Bay area have largely disappeared, but you can get a sense of what once was at this 96ha Class A reserve. A semi-permanent freshwater lake, paperbark trees and banksia, tuart, jarrah, and marri woodlands can all be found in this peaceful spot.

Bold Park - City Beach

There are 15km of walking trails through this substantial city bushland. Spread over 442ha, Bold Park is in fact larger than Kings Park. With more than 300 different native plants, you are sure to see plenty of wildflowers. And once you have had your fill of the bush, it’s just a short drive to cool off with a dive into the ocean at City Beach.
